汝窑是北宋末期的御用瓷器，温润典雅的天青釉像是扑捉了雨过天晴刹那间的云光掠影，为宋五大名窑之魁，是中国历代青瓷的典范，因其烧造年代短，自南宋以来就是收藏界的珍宝。有记录的传世汝窑瓷器全世界仅存67件，是官窑系统中传世最少的一个品种，台北故宫也仅有21件。

事实上，模印图案的汝窑，极少传世。但近来年随着河南省宝丰县清凉寺汝窑窑址的多次考古发掘，却也逐渐发现其实装饰著刻、印花图案的汝窑，产烧之初，或不若今日相像的稀少。相反的，愈来愈多的例证显示，刻、印花图案或是汝窑曾经产烧的一种品目。如早期发现的“刻画折枝莲花纹鹅颈瓶”，和近年又陆续出土刻印有莲花、莲瓣纹、龙纹的素烧坯和已施釉的标本。透露北宋汝窑的烧造中，或存在一些今日无法复见的器形与纹饰。而与此“汝窑青瓷椭圆洗”相似，且底部亦存在相同制作痕迹的残件标本，亦见于河南省宝丰县清凉寺的汝窑窑址，从中印证椭圆洗产烧自河南省宝丰县清凉寺的史实。
